Overview

?

Welcome, SoupStory here with my first ever build guide.

This build focuses on one and only one skill, Flame Reave! When I first started Last Epoch, I fell in love with Flame Reave as a "melee" skill, but found out that most build guides paired Flame Reave with Firebrand for a big, single hit. Coming from a PoE background, that playstyle was not to my liking and hence, this build was made.

I would like to preface that this build guide is NOT optimized (I did not do the math) and the build is unlikely to be able to push high corruption. It is meant as a fun, easy and interesting build which you can try refining further. It is also beginner friendly and SCF friendly as it requires NO uniques.

This build excels at clearing monoliths decently quickly but struggles with single target. It has a very simple playstyle, Teleport to enemies and Flame Reave till they are dead. We have an "Oh Shit" button Flame Ward and the rest of the skills trigger automatically. Easy.

There are 2 variations to this build:

  1. Hybrid Heath and Ward
  2. Low Life Ward

Low Life requires Exsanguinous, Last Steps of the Living or an experimental glove with the PrefixExperimental Ward per Missing Health affix. The unique items can be target farmed from the Blood, Frost & Death monolith timeline and are relatively achievable, with drop chance of 7% for a 2LP Exsanguinous and 20% for a 1 or 2LP Last Steps of the Living.

Hope you enjoy the build!

Pros & Cons

Pros

Only 1 button required, Flame Reave

No required uniques to get started (unless going low life)

Low Teleport cooldown (below 3s for easy dodges)

Able to go Low Life, and tank BIG hits with Flame Ward

Very flexible gearing, easy 100% critical chance due to Precise Destruction 2/3 and Chaos Flare 2/4

No need to deal with SuffixEndurance, as we are either hybrid or low life

Cons

Mana issues, especially during boss fights (solved partially with mana strike or taking Sorcerer Passives)

Requires at least 60% cooldown to have Enchant Weapon at 100% uptime

Low single target dps

Weak to DoT due to low ward generation (comparatively to, lets say, a Rune Master)

Unlikely to push high corruption

Gameplay / Mechanics

Use Flame Reave to sweep enemies, Mana Strike when low on mana, Teleport around and Flame Ward when things get dangerous. Its that simple.

This build deals Fire and Lightning damage by utilising Flame Reave's Rolling Thunder 1/1 to convert some Fire damage into Lightning damage. % increased PrefixFire Damage or PrefixLightning Damage will only scale half of our damage. Hence, damage scales best with +flat damage. We have multiple sources as listed below:

  1. Weapon's PrefixMelee Fire Damage or PrefixMelee Lightning Damage
  2. Flame Reave's Frenzied Flame 4/4
  3. Enchant Weapon's Molten Steel 5/5 and Thundering 4/5
  4. Spellblade Passive Tree's Infused Weapon 8/8 and Prismatic Blade 8/8

Ward generation is mainly from Sun and Storms 5/5 + Silver Rune 3/3, which activates twice per second as Flame Reave now has both a Fire and Lightning tag. This grants us ~100 ward/sec while using Flame Reave. We also gain 55 ward per attack with Arcane Warden 8/8 + Essence Duel 5/5.

As with all Spellblades, we LOVE Enchant Weapon as it is a BIG damage boost when it is up. With 66% SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed, we are able to obtain 100% uptime on Enchant Weapon. With Teleport's Wormhole 1/1, we reduce that requirement down to 61%. Do try to aim for this threshold.

Main sources of SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed are as follows:

  1. Belt and Boots SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed affix
  2. Ring type Opal Ring
  3. Helmet type Arcane Visage
  4. Gloves type Ascetic Gloves

Skills

Passives

Stat Priorities

Equipment

The main priority is to achieve at least 61% SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed. This is done through:

  1. Belt or Boots SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed
  2. Ring type Opal Ring
  3. Helmet type Arcane Visage
  4. Glove type Ascetic Gloves

I recommend finding an exalted belt with T6 SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed, crafting boots with T5 SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed, and using 2x Opal Rings. Your mileage may vary depending on your luck / crafting skills / if you choose to trade with Merchant's Guild.

For your main weapon, you may choose to go defensive with a one-handed sword and shield, or offensive with a spear or Jasper's Searing Pride. Staffs are not recommended as they cannot roll thePrefixMelee Attack Speed affix, but if you are comfortable with the low attack speed it is not a bad option.

For Low Life, try to obtain a 2LP Exsanguinous by target farming Blood, Frost & Death timeline. This gives us a 50/50 chance at obtaining a +4 PrefixLevel of Flame Reave, which is very rare if you are self-found. I got lucky on my first try.

Other alternatives are:

  1. Crafting a glove with T5 PrefixExperimental Ward per Missing Health, refer here to force the affix with a Glyph of Insight
  2. Farming a 1LP Last Steps of the Living from Blood, Frost & Death Monolith boss (only drops from him) for a 25% chance at obtaining T5 SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed, which is hard to obtain elsewhere

I recommend transitioning to low life only when you have Exsanguinous + PrefixExperimental Ward per Missing Health glove or Last Steps of the Living.

Blessings

The only required Blessing is Grand Survival of Might to obtain 100% critical avoidance.

The rest are suggestions, however do not underestimate Grand Bulwark of the Tundra + Grand Body of Obsidian. These 2 give a huge amount of armour and Mages do not have very good sources of armour, which is another great layer of defense.

This is what I recommend:

Build Variants

Leveling

Use any skill you like, leveling is easy in Last Epoch!

I recommend using Shatter Strike when you first advance to Spellblade and switching over to Flame Reave only after the minimum skill level is at least 5 (for Dancing Flames 5/5). Flame Reave's mana cost is too high to use comfortably early on. Assign some passive points in Sorcerer's Mana Shell 5/8 and Wisdom 6/8 to alleviate mana issues early on.

Endgame

Further optimisation of this build will require farming for specific T7 affixes and obtaining 2 or 3 LP uniques, which I have no interest in pursuing. Hence, I will leave the rest to others to take up the challenge of refining this build. (Do reference me if you took some inspiration! It would make my day.)

Farming will mostly be in the Blood, Frost & Death timeline as it is where the required unique items can be target farmed. You also get to target the Grand Survival of Might blessing. Fortunately, the timeline boss, Formosus the Undying, is fairly easy to beat with this build. Simply sidestep his channeled necrotic beam attack and frost winds; chase him down when he teleports with our own Teleport, and tank the ice bolts and his summon Undead Wengari with Flame Ward. I highly recommend switching to the Low Life variant if you have the required uniques (Exsanguinous, Last Steps of the Living) as it improves survivability by a lot.

I am able to reach 375 corruption and clear echoes relatively easily by abusing the high ward from Low Life. However I estimate the build will cap out around 500 corruption (I would be happy if you proved me wrong :). Melee builds will always fare badly in high corruption due to enemies hitting too hard.

Thank you for reading through this lengthy guide I sloppily put together in 4 hours. Have fun!
