Overview

?

Welcome to the Poison Spirit Plague Lich! Where we get resistance shred for free and base poison spell damage thanks to Rotmind.

The build uses the Lich tool kit in symphony to empower Damage over Time and Spell and Global Poison Chance to produce nice damage.

Updates for 1.0

Summary:

  • The build's damage is higher than it was before the poison nerf.
  • Gear needs to have the correct affixes, otherwise it's going to feel off.
  • Defense is the priority right now, the damage output is great.
  • The gear i've posted should be attainable through self collection and the merchant's guild.
  • After the difficulty changes, I am at 350 corruption and farming it. Certainly have the numbers to go higher.
  • Uncertain to what that translates into prior to the change.
  • If 100 corruption is now closer to 200 corruption
  • then 350 is closer to 450? Seems legit to me.

Pros & Cons

Pros

Survivability through leech, high armor and easy stating [there's a lot of baked in Spell Poison Chance]

High gear ceiling, low gear floor

Big Dot proliferation through Plague Bearer 1/1

Easy to play, easy to master

Big Dot Damage, doesn't take 1000 poison stacks to work

NO Aura Of Decay TO BALANCE

Cons

Low life without correct allocations to resistance and armor = we die

Without SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed, the build is vulnerable and damage isn't consistent. Luckily, we got big items to help us. They are Necropolis Helm and Opal Ring

You are going to have to hit Hungering Souls every 8 seconds

Not every skill can get the poison tag

Gameplay / Mechanics

Rotation

It's really easy to play. Maintain Death Seal, Reaper Form and Wandering Spirits (on big packs or tough elites), then, hold down right click for Spirit Plague.

Ailments

With high cast speed, you'll maintain high stacks of Frailty, Poison, Damned, Slow, Spirit Plague, Plague, Possess (from Hungering Souls) and Marked For Death ailments from the build setup alone. Use Mad Alchemist's Ladle to stack damage and apply Electrify,Frailty, Shred Armour. You get 8%more spell damage per ailment!

Scaling Damage over Time & Poison Damage

Spirit Plague scales global poison and dot damage through Endless Decay 3/3 and Pestilence 3/3, acquiring an additional 468% damage over time at 13 stacks. Unsure if Rotten to the Core scales ailment damage. The "more" is certainly appealing, but it specifically says Spirit Plague in the tool tip. Without the poison tag, i am thinking it will not "more" the poison damage.

Wandering Spirits add another avenue for stacking Poison through ranged poison attacks Spectral Putrescence 1/1. Poison Spit

Reaper Form only adds 70% but adds duration to poison and increased global poison chance.

Hungering Souls adds 140% MORE damage over time against Possessed monsters with Inspired Hunger 5/5 and Descent Into Madness 5/5

Death Seal tops it off by increasing our damage by 330% from Corrupted Consciousness 5/5

Net damage increase is 868% from solely our abilities. Then, we get a 1.4x multiplier from Hungering Souls.

With Rotmind, DoT spells acquire base poison damage (doesn't explicitly change the tag, unfortunately). Base Damage scaling calculations for our abilities are great already. Additionally, it adds the benefit of our DoTs to scale off the added poison damage.

I've hit 100 stacks of Poison and easily maintain max stacks of every other ailment. With the amount of resistance penetration and damage resistance shred on the build and at the current gear of my build, DoT ticks are hitting upwards of 50k. There is plenty of room to grow the damage.

Skill Interaction for Hit Damage

Death Seal gains damage on Mortal Pulse through Cycle of Decay and Curdled Flesh while increasing global Poison Chance from Pustulent Presence up to 4% per missing health (264%). We don't need to (but can) build into poison chance because of this.

Wandering Spirits applies Poison from range through Spectral Putrescence and deals on hit poison damage. It benefits the most from Pustulent Presence

Hungering Souls is a DoT and DoT Against Possess'd Targets Buff. Pre 1.0, i'd use this for some damage, then decided that i'd rather just focus on scaling poison counts and removed the single soul setup. Now, we shoot a lot of souls, possess many monsters, and have better clear. With the addition of the Warlock support for curses and ailments, the damage for Poison is better than it was before the nerf and we don't need to supplement our damage more with the single target setup. We increase the frequency of free casting Hungering Souls with Death Seal.

Estimated DPS

The training dummy is in the Champion's Arena. Recent tests against it have seen peak 750k poison ticks and 200k plague ticks. Average ticks are between 250-400k poison and 70-100k plague ticks. This is a significant increase from 9.0.2.

I've been ticking on Orobus for 70-90k during burst, at 250-300 Corruption. Dodging mechanics and such it's ticking for about 20-40k. He dies reallly fast.

Equipment

The gear floor is low, but you'll need a Rotmind, SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed , and Mad Alchemist's Ladle.

Generally, Good Unsolicited Advice

The gear floor (minimum suggested gear)

Mad Alchemist's Ladle

Rotmind

  • Base spell poison damage
  • Skill levels
  • Dot dmg taken redux
  • Poison damage leech
  • Need I say more?

Murama's Hilt

  • PrefixCast Speed for Spirit Plague
  • So we don't have to invest so heavily into PrefixCast Speed elsewhere
  • The one poison relic is for poison chance. Not too bad if you get a really good one.

Atrophy

The Gear Ceiling (LP Requirements)

Tongue of the Aberrant SeerOmnis

You may get away with LP 1 on Tongue of the Aberrant Seer with balanced SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed on other items or skillful play. Ideally, LP 2+ with SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed, SuffixEndurance, SuffixEndurance Threshold, and PrefixPoison Damage

Omnis

  • Requires Farming Shade of Orobyss
  • Farming him isn't hard, it's just monotonous and depressing at times.
  • Also, his blood version will wreck us early on without SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed
  • Omnis is rare enough. A good Omnis is rarer. A Omnis with LP is ... a dream.

FAQ

Does Aura of Decay and Death Seal Work?

Yeah, sure. plenty of people do it. The whole point of this build is to not use Aura of Decay. It taxes the build significantly. I've tested it in it weakest form and yes, it sustains...but the damage is weak.

Ward Version?

We're using Death Seal. It eats all ward. As I said about Aura of Decay, it is way too taxing. Can it be done with a significant amount of investment? Yes. All things are enabled through currency. But, I am not going to theorycraft a multi-billion , 400k+ favor build.
