Overview

?

Astraeus is a unique mage, in which he casts nothing directly. He only uses his Mana Strike in order to proc Frost Claw. This is where the fun begins to happen.

Directly our Mana Strike doesn't do much damage, and that is expected. Our damage come from one of 3 procs by using our Mana Strike attacks VERY QUICKLY (110% ish)

Frost Claw will been seen 1 out of 3 Mana Strike attacks, thanks to our Macuahuitl 3/3. Frost Claw with a high crit chance will allow Meteor to be seen 9% of these attacks (this is assuming we get nearly 100%). Moreover, Frost Claw will also proc Elemental Nova in 42% of the Frost Claw attacks. Our Elemental Nova not only has an incredibly high crit chance, but crit multiplier (around 450-500% after adding in existing base). This Elemental Nova will also have a chance to proc Meteor. Finally, Mana Strike, which attacks very quickly with Mana Storm 1/1 which also has an incredibly high crit chance, which of course, will proc Meteor, not to mention the actual melee attack that can also proc Meteor.

This is a total of 4 skill that can proc our Meteor by only using a singular skill, Mana Strike. This is very important, that it is mana strike for a few reasons.

  1. It gains mana, and very quickly. This is very good, because mana is burnt VERY quickly.
  2. It gains us ward, also very quickly. This is our primary defensive layer, backed by flat armor.

The video below will show you how tanky we can be, as well as massive spike damage.

As always, my builds never require LP to function, but the build can be improved if found.

Pros & Cons

Pros

Simple skill rotation

1 common unique required (well rolled 9%)

Mana gainer and Mana Burner is the same button

Uses 2 solid defensive layers (Ward, Armor)

Cons

Can be hard to min/max itemizations

Damage is RNG based (but it a good chance to be good RNG)

Gameplay / Mechanics

We have 5 skills on our bar, but only 2 of them are scaled. We use Flame Rush as our movement skill, mostly because of our fire scaling.

Flame Ward is our standard get of jail free card in case you run into trouble.

The third can be anything you want, I used Meteor for boss fighting starts.

Standard engagement

Walk up or Flame Rush into a pack, manually cast Enchant Weapon (at the time of guide creation, auto casting node Kindling Blade 1/1 is not functioning) and Mana Strike down opponents. There's a good chance, the pack will die without Meteor ever needing to be proc'd.

Difficult engagement

Find your opening, with Flame Rush, and use Flame Ward upon or during the Flame Rush (It's channeled). Open up with Enchant Weapon and begin to Mana Strike them down. If they are not falling, backup and repeat the same process. Once you understand your ward and armor can shelter the damage, you'll be more comfortable with these kind of engagements.

Boss fight

Same as above, but can open up with Meteor if you feel like it.

The Invoker's Static Touch and our static chance on hit, Unsealed Mana 5/6, Arcane Warden 8/8, and Arcane Shielding 5/5 will keep your ward topped up. Your attack speed is the primary defensive and offensive driver here.

Endgame

My builds do not require LP, but PrefixFire Damage and PrefixWard and Ailment Cleansing on Potion Use would be ideal. Digging into late game and hunting down T7's or even dual exalted items would be the end game grind.

Loot Filter

A good generic late game loot filter for double exalts and T7's can be found here.
