Overview

?

Welcome to Allie's guide on Cast on Crit Spark Charge Runemaster! This is a build ive been excited to play and share with everyone offering some of the most visually appealing gameplay in Last Epoch while also pretty much being Immortal with 30k+ Ward on Bosses & lots of Damage Reduction on top of it! This will be a moderatly fast Monolith Farmer and an amazing Bosser with pretty easy scaling from Level 46 onwards once we can truly get the build online with Fragment of the Enigma. It's a very simple playstyle with slight clunkiness due to potential Mana issues but i've done everything I can to make sure that doesn't happen! With that said, there are no extreme interactions or breakpoints you need to meet making it very New Player Friendly to play!

Please Note - You need Dragorath's Claw & Fragment of the Enigma to play this build. These are both 2 very common items and can be easily gotten with a few Rune of Ascendance. All other Unique items are optional upgrades and are NOT required to start this.

If you have any questions, I stream every day on Twitch and would be more than happy to help you out! - https://www.twitch.tv/Allliee_

This build also has a corresponding Video Guide! I come from PoE and am known for my very very in-depth Build Guides.

I'd highy recommend checking it out and, if you can't make a Twitch stream, leave a comment on the Video Guide and ill help as soon as I can!

This build utilizes Frost Claw to trigger Lightning Blasts on Crit thanks to Dragorath's Claw which then trigger Spark Charge on enemies which we scale with Fragment of the Enigma. It is essentially a 1 button build where all you do is Flame Rush around and spam Frost Claw. While this build requires 2 Uniques to get going, they are both some of the most common items in the game making them very easy to farm or to use a Rune of Ascendance to obtain. The clear of this build due to Spark Charges will be great and the only thing holding it back is the lack of Movement Speed passive points that Mage typically doesn't get. With that said, it will still be faster than most builds due to a low Flame Rush cooldown!

Not only that but because we are a Runemaster, get get access to insane amounts of defences through things suck as Reowyn's Frostguard & Sphere of Protection 8/8. Due to us doing ~30 hits/second on bosses, we will be gaining thousands of Ward Per Second making all Bosses very very easy at all times through Celestial Doom 7/10. If we then add in the Ward on Crit from Dragorath's Claw, Shiver Shell 3/3 & Arcane Focus 8/8 we will have great sustain while doing Echoes and while doing Bosses!

Pros & Cons

Gameplay / Mechanics

PLEASE READ THIS THIS IS SUPER SUPER IMPORTANT - You NEED to have the following abilities as your first 3 skills IN THIS ORDER in this build: Flame Rush - Frost Claw - Snap Freeze. You can swap Snap Freeze & Flame Rush if you want but your first 3 skills MUST be COLD FIRE COLD. You can also put Runic Invocation as your first button but then the following 3 keys MUST BE the 3 mentioned in that order. This is due to us using Immutable Order 1/1 for Runic Invocation to always force Reowyn's Frostguard without us needing to do the invocation correctly. This is major increase to QoL you just NEED to setup your bar with COLD FIRE COLD as your ability skill tags.

This means your bar should be one of the following:

  1. Runic Invocation Flame Rush Frost Claw Snap Freeze
  2. Runic Invocation Snap Freeze Frost Claw Flame Rush
  3. Flame Rush Frost Claw Snap Freeze Runic Invocation
  4. Snap Freeze Frost Claw Flame Rush Runic Invocation

Damage & Playstyle

This build will be very simple to play with your rotation simply being using Frost Claw to trigger Lightning Blast through Dragorath's Claw which then apply Spark Charges to enemies. Due to us taking Chain Lightning 1/4, we will have great spread throughout packs allowing us to apply a lot more Spark Charges. Due to the nature of how Frost Claw works, you don't even need to perfectly aim on top of a pack or an enemy, simply hitting close enough to them will be enough! This is due to us being capped at 3 Lightning Blasts a second through Dragorath's Claw meaning we don't care to hit everything. On Bosses, you will want to aim properly as the individual hits can still apply Spark Charges through Fragment of the Enigma's 12% base chance. When combined with Flame Rush's very low cooldown and the Haste from Flame Ward's Flame Runner 1/1, this build will feel very fast!

PLEASE NOTE - If you spam Frost Claw you WILL run out of Mana during Echoes. There is also a small chance you will go OOM if you don't spam anyways. This is due to Gift of Winter 3/3 only being a 36% chance to basically refund your mana. The thing about Gift of Winter 3/3 is that it works with ALL casts of Frost Claw including the bonus ones from On Through The Snow 1/1, Ever Onward 1/1 & A Crack in the Ice 1/1. This means you have 4 36% chances to trigger Gift of Winter 3/3 per cast of Frost Claw meaning on average you will be Mana positive. On Bosses, if you STAND STILL which you can given how tanky you will be, Foot of the Mountain will lower your Mana costs so much to where you never have a chance to go OOM. All this means is, during Echoes, just press Frost Claw 1-3 times per pack and move on, the Spark Charges will take care of the rest and you will not go OOM.

On Bosses our playstyle will change a little bit, we want to TAP Flame Rush while standing on top of a boss. This will make you move a fraction of an inch but it will still trigger Flame Rush's damage which is all we need as if the boss gets hit by it, it will have Brand of Subjugation applied to it from Branding Cold 1/1. We need Brand of Subjugation to be active on a Boss to benefit from Celestial Doom 7/10 which is the majority of our Ward Gain when fighting a Boss & it will also activate the 18% More Damage of Decree of the Burning Wind 8/8. You only need to do this every 3 seconds to keep Brand of Subjugation up on bosses, otherwise you want to stand still. This build WILL facetank all mechanics, dont be scared of them. You want to make sure you are planted and are just casting Frost Claw to rebuild your Foot of the Mountain otherwise you will not be able to sustain your Mana. A bit of moving around is fine if needed but outside of Flame Rush Taps, you want to stand still.

New Tech

Video on Closed Circuit 1/1 Tech Here -

We can pick up Closed Circuit 1/1 to make the 1 Chain from Chain Lightning 1/4 chain onto us. With us procing 3 Lightning Blasts a second, this is roughly 150% increased PrefixSpell Damage & PrefixLightning Damage and 400% PrefixCritical Strike Chance on Bosses. This means we can completly drop Prismatic Gaze and actually be able to hit 100% Critical Strike Chance now on bosses vs the ~80% we had before while giving us a whole Helmet slot back allowing us to pick up stats such as PrefixIntelligence or PrefixLightning Critical Strike Multiplier. While these Chains to you wount happen often while doing Echoes, on Bosses especially due to how big the Chain Range is, you will have 100% uptime on the maximum stacks you could hold easily. This does mean you lose a bit of PrefixCritical Strike Chance while doing Echoes from the consistent uptime of Prismatic Gaze but this will not be an issue and I promise you wount notice it.

Defences

This build has pretty much 0 chance to fall over and will be able to facetank pretty much everything up until 2k+ Corruption with no problems. This is due to our amazing defence layers such as Reowyn's Frostguard & Sphere of Protection 8/8 giving us a permanent 38% Less Damage Taken. This by itself is already better than most classes on its own and we will have this permamently at all times. This is due to us utilizing Runic Invocation & Immutable Order 1/1 as mentioned above, we can lazily always cast Reowyn's Frostguard meaning we can just Num Lock Runic Invocation and just forget about it. To add onto this, we will also be picking up Arcane Focus 8/8, Celestial Doom 7/10, Shiver Shell 3/3 & Dragorath's Claw's Ward on Crit to give us a lot of Ward every time we attack with Frost Claw. When this is all put together, we will be generating thousands of Ward on top of all of the Less Damage we take. This means that this build will be natrually very very tanky and have 0 issues surviving pretty much everything.

If that wasn't enough, we also have Flame Ward giving us Barrier 5/5 & Prismatic Buffer 2/3 which will have ~50% Uptime due to all of the SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed we will be stacking & due to Ancient Inscriptions 8/10. Finally because we arent tanky enough, Flame Rush just makes us take 40% Less Damage while dashing with it making us pretty much the tankiest build in the game while everything is active at once.

Num Lock

Due to us wanting to always use Runic Invocation & Flame Ward on cooldown, we want to ideally Num Lock both skills. This will allow us to auto cast both spells without needing to actually press the buttons.

If you want a tutorial on how to Num Lock & how to set it up, I have a 3 minute guide here - https://youtu.be/kQeyAlRu-Bw

Skills

Passives

Stat Priorities

Equipment

The bases that are linked here are the ideal bases to use Endgame. Until you can get proper Exalted items on the correct bases, don't worry too much about it.

IMPORTANT: You REALLY need to make sure you fit PrefixIntelligence on every slot it can go on. For all of these tooltips, if you hover over it, at the bottom of the tooltip it will say what mod can go where. PrefixIntelligence is the lifeblood of this build allowing us to scale our Ward Retention which is how we can hit 30k+ Ward on Bosses while also giving us a very large amount of passive SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed through Ancient Inscriptions 8/10. This will make our build smoother with lower cooldown Flame Rushes & tankier through more Runic Invocation & Flame Ward casts.

You ALSO need to make sure to HEAVILY prioritize SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed on your Belt & Boots. CDR is important to getting Flame Rush, Runic Invocation & Flame Ward to as low of a cooldown as possible as outlined above. CDR makes the build feel smoother, faster & tankier. This is more important than any other Suffix on your Boots & Belt, please keep it in mind.

Prefixes

Fit PrefixIntelligence EVERYWHERE as mentioned above. The other very important stat to keep in mind will be PrefixLevel of Frost Claw on your Relic. This mod will be extremely crutial to your EHP & later on as we move onto the Elemental Nova version of this build, will be required to even have enough passive points to be played. Otherwise, focus on getting PrefixCritical Strike Multiplier & PrefixLightning Critical Strike Multiplier where you can. This build will hit 100% Critical Strike Chance very easily through all of the baseline Crit it has & Prismatic Gaze making Multiplier very lucrative. This is even more important once you have Jagged Veil 4/5 as it will just give you 20% More Multi, this means if you have 500% PrefixCritical Strike Multiplier, Jagged Veil 4/5 will give you a free 100% on top bringing you to 600%.

There are a lot of other good Prefixes for every slot and the table below tries to list everything good.

Suffixes

Ideally, you want to fit as much SuffixHealth as you can everywhere. This build will have a very easy time with resistances meaning you shouldnt struggle with trying to play Resistance Jenga too much due to things such as the free SuffixAll Resistances on Dragorath's Claw & Grand Resolve of Humanity. There are only 2 required idols in this build which are 2 Ornate Glass Idol with PrefixFrost Claw Mana Efficiency and Elemental Penetration on them. Due to this, the rest of your Idols can also be used for Resistances if needed.

As mentioned above, make sure to HEAVILY prioritize SuffixIncreased Cooldown Recovery Speed on both your Belt & Boots as it helps with Flame Rush, Runic Invocation & Flame Ward to have as low of a cooldown as possible.

Otherwise, make sure to have 1 SuffixChance to Shred Armour on Hit & 1 SuffixChance to apply Frailty on Hit somewhere on your gear between your Amulet, Gloves & Relic. THESE DO NOT NEED TO BE UPGRADED PAST TIER 1 - Because this build will do ~30 hits/second you can technically leave these rolls at Tier 1 if you are low on Forging Potential on an item and want to upgrade a different stat. Always prioritize upgrading these 2 mods last on an item. A single 200% SuffixChance to Shred Armour on Hit roll is enough to hold ~600 Shred Armour stacks.

Unique Items

Dragorath's Claw & Fragment of the Enigma are REQUIRED to make this build work. The dagger procs Lightning Blasts when you Crit with Frost Claw & the Catalyst scales the Spark Charges that Lightning Blast puts on enemies. Luckily, these are both very common Unique items and shouldn't be very difficult to Rune of Ascendance if you need to obtain them and have a few lying around.

With the Addition of the Closed Circuit 1/1 tech, Prismatic Gaze is now only good for a small boost to clear while doing nothing for bosses. Video Update here -

Prismatic Gaze is a very very strong addition to this build giving us a lot of Base and % PrefixCritical Strike Chance allowing us to get a better Crit Rate on Frost Claw for Dragorath's Claw & for the Spark Charges we apply.

Foot of the Mountain is borderline mandatory for this build due to how much it helps with Mana on Bosses. Foot of the Mountain doesn't do anything for you while clearing as you need to actually stand still for 1 second to even gain the first stack. While clearing, you realistically only need to do 1-2 casts of Frost Claw to clear the whole screen, making Mana issues not a problem. On Bosses, you will be standing still and holding down Frost Claw which will have a very very high mana cost without Foot of the Mountain. Due to this I HIGHLY encourage you farm these out on another character before starting the build or to go and IMMIDEATLY farm these. They are a 20% chance to drop in Tier 2 Lightless Arbor making them very easy to get on pretty much any character.

Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros is an amazing upgrade to add onto this build as it offers a lot of additional Ward on bosses allowing us to pretty much facetank everything. Ideally, you would want to farm a lot of 1 LP Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros and then put Tier 7 PrefixLevel of Frost Claw on it. This will be a big upgrade and will be required for the Elemental Nova version of the build. If you do upgrade to Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros from a PrefixLevel of Frost Claw Relic, drop the Shiver Shell 3/3 portion of the tree.

Idols

Idols in this build are going to be very simple given there isint much you really need and are free to play around with them quite a bit.

First, you want to prioritize getting 2 Ornate Glass Idols with PrefixFrost Claw Mana Efficiency and Elemental Penetration on them. We NEED this Mana Efficiency to be able to not go OOM all the time and is an important roll to look for. As for the Suffix on them, at first anything is fine and eventually you will want to get either SuffixMana And Armor or SuffixMana Spent Gained as Ward. These are highly crutial to the build feeling better and better and will be important to farm for. The leveling filter will include them in BLUE text as a seperate rule to make sure you can find some and PINK for 2 stat ones.

The only other idol worth mentioning is a Large Arcane Idol with PrefixIncreased Cast Speed while you have Lightning Aegis and potentially SuffixHealth. This fits nicely on 1 side of our Idol panel and is quite a large amount of PrefixCast Speed.

Outside of those 2 Idols, you can fill in the rest of the slots with Small Eterran Idol, Small Lagonian Idol or Humble Eterran Idol. Use these slots to fill in any sort of gaps you might have in your Resistances and if you dont need any, fill up any remaining slots with Small Lagonian Idol that have PrefixArmour/PrefixWard Retention & SuffixHealth on them.

Blessings

Blessings will also be just as simple as Idols are in this build.

We need Grand Hunger of the Void in order to have enough Leech while using Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros while doing Echoes. You could swap it out for Grand Emptiness of Ash or Grand Winds of Oblivion if you want more damage as the Leech from Rift Bolt 5/5 will be enough on Bosses.

Im a big fan of Grand Bulwark of the Tundra as SuffixArmour is one of the best ways to scale our build especially when combined with Grand Body of Obsidian giving us ~2k Armour when added onto the SuffixArmour our build has. This is really nice especially when combined with Eternal Gauntlets allowing the SuffixArmour to also work on DoTs giving us more tankiness where we really need it. You can also opt to just run Grand Protection of Heorot or Grand Resolve of Grael in Age of Winter to completly take care of 1 Resistance and Grand Heart of the Caldera in Spirits of Fire over the Armour Blessings but I don't recommend it given how easy Resistance Capping is in this build.

This is a build that actually doesn't want Grand Survival of Might due to us having Mental Catalysis 6/6 incentivizing us to stack SuffixReduced Bonus Damage Taken from Critical Strikes. With 1 Tier 5 roll on our gear that puts us at ~90% Less Damage taken from Crits making it more than good enough. Due to this, it means we can pick up Grand Resolve of Humanity making Resistance Capping even easier.

Lastly, we NEED Grand Mysteries of the Deep as Shred Lightning Resistance is a major DPS increase. This is a big addition to the build and overpoweres other options such as Grand Chaos of Lagon or Grand Resonance of the Sea.

Leveling

Leveling this build will be very easy as we get to play with Glacier and Mana Strike from Level 5 all the way to Level 46 when we can equip Fragment of the Enigma. This guide will assume you have a Fragment of the Enigma ready to go and will only guide you on how to level with Glacier up until Level 46. The Passive Tree in the Passive Tree Section of the Guide will be the same Passive Tree you want to use while leveling. Leveling with Glacier is an absolute breeze and pretty much the correct way to level every Mage build due to just how strong it is!

If you want an in-depth explination of how to level this, id recommend watching the Video Guide!

Step by Step guide at the bottom

NOTE - This Leveling Section is written as if you have no leveling gear at all and you are playing a new fresh character. If you have leveling gear, I encourage you to use it as it will make your live easier.

I have a guide on Leveling Gear you can use here - https://youtu.be/AjktGvXLAaM

Build Planner with Glacier & Mana Strike Leveling Trees - https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/BgRLV8xQ

Make sure to focus on PrefixSpell Damage on all of your gear that can have PrefixSpell Damage on. Otherwise, MAKE SURE to keep upgrading your Wand or Sceptre as you progress through the story. Glacier has a total of 625% Effectiveness of Added Damage across the 3 seperate hits it does making the Added Damage that gets higher and higher on better Wand & Sceptre bases very important.

Levels 1-5

To start our journey to a busted build we first need to unlock Glacier. This will happen at ~Level 5 as you enter the Temple. When you first get to town, check the gear vendor for any Silver Rings and other useful items. For the first few Levels, ailments such as SuffixChance to Ignite on Hit, SuffixChance to Poison on Hit or SuffixChance to Bleed on Hit are king at DPS and are better than any other roll. Get yourself an item for every slot if you can and try to Craft PrefixIntelligence & PrefixSpell Damage everywhere you can. Use Lightning Blast until you unlock Elemental Nova then Specialize into Elemental Nova and pick up a point in Arcana Elementorum 1/5 to make your life a bit easier. Once you put 5 Passive Points into your Passive Tree you unlock Glacier. Despecialize out of Elemental Nova and Specialize into Glacier which will be the bread and butter of our leveling experience all the way to Level 46 along with Mana Strike.

For now, your Mana cost on Glacier will be abysmal but thats ok. Just try your best to clump up enemies and use 1 Glacier to kill the majority of them, its ok if some stragglers live, just run to the next pack. Glacier is a very unique skill that does 3 expanding hits of Ice that to more and more Damage. The 3rd hit will be ~60% of the total damage of the skill which will be the important one to land. On Bosses you will be spamming Glacier until you run out of Mana followed by Mana Strike to get it back. Bosses should melt in seconds and be a breeze with this.

Levels 5-46

Your experience from here will be a pretty relaxing one without too many issues. At Level 7 you unlock Flame Ward which should be used on cooldown as a defensive layer. At Level 8 you will Specialize into Mana Strike allowing you to regen your mana substantually faster and at Level 9 you unlock Teleport. We will be using an Unspecialized Teleport all the way until Level 50 where we can unlock our 5th Slot to Specialize into Flame Rush. I'd recommend to not use Flame Rush when you unlock it and to just keep using Teleport.

At Level 20 you will unlock your 3rd Slot and this is when we will Specialize into Runic Invocation. For now, this will not do anything until we unlock Immutable Order 1/1.

Once you do unlock Immutable Order 1/1 we will need to setup our Skills on our bar in the following order:

Glacier - Flame Ward - Snap Freeze.

These HAVE to be the first 3 skills from Left to Right OR you can have Runic Invocation on your Left-most key THEN Glacier - Flame Ward - Snap Freeze. This will ensure Immutable Order 1/1 will always give you Cold Fire Cold whenever you use any skill allowing us to spam Runic Invocation for Reowyn's Frostguard. This skill is not ok. It offers 30% Less Damage taken which we will have up pretty much permanently and a lot of Ward. Assuming this is setup correctly, you will have 0 issues leveling as you will be too tanky to die.

Its up to you if you want to set this up to be tankier or to keep using Teleport.

At Level 35 you will unlock your 4th Slot which we will use to pick up Frost Claw. This is simply here just to soak up Experience for later, for now you are still going to be using Glacier & Mana Strike.

Level 46+

At Level 46 you can finally put on Fragment of the Enigma which is when the build really starts. Despecialize out of Glacier & Mana Strike and Specialize into Lightning Blast & Flame Ward. Follow the trees in the Skills section of the Build Guide. You are now going to be primarly using Frost Claw while still continuing to use Flame Ward & Runic Invocation on cooldown.

Your new order for Runic Invocation is now:

Glacier - Frost Claw - Snap Freeze

Make sure you have the Lava Talon 1/1 point on Frost Claw allocated so it counts as a Fire skill for Immutable Order 1/1. Its ok if this means you dont have space for Flame Ward on your bar until you drop Teleport for Flame Rush, you dont even really need Flame Ward yet. Once you have 3 points in Cloud Answer 3/3 & Mortal Capacitor 5/5 your damage will skyrocket and have 0 issues leveling. The final thing to mention is that at Level 50 you unlock your 5th Slot and thats when you pick up Flame Rush. Once you have Snowballing 1/1, replace Glacier on your bars with Flame Rush as it will now be a Cold skill.

Build Planner with Glacier & Mana Strike Leveling Trees - https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/BgRLV8xQ

Step by Step Guide

  1. Play Lightning Blast into Specializing Elemental Nova with 1 point in Arcana Elementorum 1/5 until Level 5.
  2. At Level 5 Specialize into Glacier. You will be using Glacier & Mana Strike as your 2 main skills filling in with Mana Strike when out of Mana.
  3. At Level 7 start using Flame Ward & at Level 9 use Teleport. At Level 8 Specialize into Mana Strike, this will greatly help with any mana issues you might have as you level it.
  4. At Level 20 Specialize into Runic Invocation, ignore it until you pick up Immutable Order 1/1 then follow the instructions in the Level 5-46 Section on how to setup your Action Bar.
  5. At Level 35 Specialize into Frost Claw and ignore it. It is just there to soak up Experience for later, keep using Glacier for now.
  6. At Level 46, equip Dragorath's Claw & Fragment of the Enigma and Despecialize out of Glacier & Mana Strike. Specialize into Lightning Blast & Flame Ward. Frost Claw is now your main ability and will be how you proc Lightning Blasts. Refer to the Level 46+ Section on how to setup your Action Bar for Runic Invocation & Immutable Order 1/1.
  7. At Level 50 Specialize into Flame Rush and stop using Teleport. Once you have Snowballing 1/1, replace Glacier on your bars with Flame Rush for Runic Invocation's Immutable Order 1/1.

Endgame

The Endgame for this build will involve some gear swapping and farming for LP.

Eventually you will want to swap over to a Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros and ideally try to get Tier 7 PrefixLevel of Frost Claw on it. Otherwise, you will want to look for LP versions of the rest of the gear and to follow the LP Priority listed in the Equipment section of the Guide.

Outside of that, look for Exalted items and upgrade your gear according to the stat priority in the Equipment section.

Lastly, we will eventually be swapping over to the Elemental Nova version of this build which will require a Tier 6/7 PrefixLevel of Frost Claw preferably on a Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros but ANY Relic works with the Mod. There are some other items to consider such as Mad Alchemist's Ladle & Crest of Unity which you might want to keep if you find a verison with LP. The Elemental Nova version of the build is further discused here - https://youtu.be/crXaYJD_gV8
