Overview

?

Welcome to Osprixx's Warpath Spellslinger, updated for 1.0!

This build guide is intended for first-time Hardcore & HCSSF players who want an easy and smooth levelling and midgame experience.

This build starts with Hammer Throw, then transitions to Warpath around level 50. It uses Smite, Flame Burst 1/1, and Divine Bolt 1/1 for damage, all being triggered from Warpath.

Defenses come in the form of 100% Chance to Block, and a massive amount of Health Gained on Block.

This build can tackle all content in the endgame, though bosses are a bit slow since we have lower than average DPS.

Note: All resistances shown in the gear to the right are interchangeable. USE THE RESISTS YOU NEED!

Pros & Cons

Pros

No dependency on Legendary items whatsoever. In fact there's no plan in the guide to use them at all

Easy levelling - extremely safe and capable of hitting 1k HP and 75% all res before level 50

Plentiful sources of Health Gained on Block from the Sentinel

Smite healing is consistent and very strong

One-button build for ez gameplay

Cons

DPS is mid - bosses and chunky rares take a while to kill

Dies very quickly to any boss DoT ability

Gameplay / Mechanics

The actual gameplay of any Warpath build boils down to one thing: Spin-to-Win. That's it. Just go and the spells will take care of the rest.

Damage

This is probably the most interesting part of the build, considering it's a melee build that uses spells for damage. The build feels similar to a Path of Exile Cast-while-Channeling Cyclone build if that means anything to you.

All of our damage comes from hits from Smite, Divine Bolt, and Flame Burst. Each of which are being triggered by Warpath in one way or another. So scaling Spell Damage, Fire Damage, Elemental Damage, Fire Penetration, Armor Shred, etc. is all useful here. What we don't scale is any form of Melee Damage and Damage Over Time, though PrefixMelee Attack Speed on Gloves could be useful still to increase the rate of Divine Bolt 1/1 triggers.

Smite's Fire Burst from the Righteous Overload 5/5 node, and Holy Aura's Flame Burst from the Flame Burst 1/1 node will be your largest sources of clear. Divine Bolt from Paladin's Divine Bolt 1/1 node will provide some incidental damage while applying ailments such as Blind to distant enemies.

Boss DPS goes up slightly with Javelin triggering Smite with the Righteous Descend 5/5 node.

Defenses

Our main defense is 100% chance to block, supplemented with high Health Gained on Block.

We get high block chance from our Shield, Warpath's Juggernaut Stance 5/5, Sigils Of Hope's Sign of the Guardian 3/3, and the Stalwart 1/5, Steel Aegis 1/5, and Honour 1/5 passive tree nodes.

Health gained on block comes from your Shield's PrefixHealth Gained on Block affix, the Strength of the Mountain blessing, Holy Aura's Mighty Shield 4/4 node, and the Aegis of Renewal 5/5 and Holy Symbol 6/6 passive tree nodes.

Shield Wall 1/1 from the Paladin tree pulls double duty by providing large amounts of both for only 1 skill point.

Equipment

As stated above in the overview, all resistances are interchangeable, so they are left out in this section. Use whatever resistances you need to fill in the gaps on suffixes here.

Helmet, Body, and Belt are entirely focused on providing as much Health as possible with added SuffixHealth, increased SuffixHealth, and SuffixHybrid Health.

Gloves and Rings must have SuffixBlock Chance and Effectiveness, and gloves should also aim to have SuffixCritical Strike Avoidance.

Boots with high PrefixMovement Speed are a must to counter Warpath's penalty.

Your amulet is the only piece that can get PrefixFire Penetration so... get that. (A Wand can get SuffixFire Penetration and Minion Fire Penetration, but you should have SuffixChance to Blind on Hit instead until you cap your crit avoidance.)

The Wand will be your largest source of damage with PrefixFire Damage, PrefixSpell Damage, and ideally a sealed PrefixElemental Damage.

Relics should have PrefixLevel of Smite for DPS.

Your shield is the most important piece in the build as it enables the massive Health on Block stacking. As such, you should look for PrefixHealth Gained on Block, PrefixBlock Chance, and SuffixDamage Taken on Block. The last suffix should be either SuffixHealth or SuffixAll Resistances depending on what you need.

The rest of the suffixes should be focused on hitting 100% all resistance with the help of various resistances, or more SuffixHealth if you don't need the resists. Prefixes will be fore scaling damage in various ways either through the PrefixAttunement stat, or with PrefixFire Damage, PrefixSpell Damage, and PrefixIncreased Armour Shred Effect.

Idols

For idols, we're looking for a very specific set of affixes.

We want PrefixSeconds to Sigils of Hope Duration and , which can be found on the same Huge Rahyeh Idol. In the end, we want 2 of these. This will make bossing a lot easier as we won't have to recast our sigils as often, and will massively increase our spell hit DPS.

You should be using all of the other idol slots to overcap your resistances to 100%.

Blessings

Strength of the Mountain is non-negotiable. So grind The Black Sun as early as you can until you get it. Then do the same in the empowered version for Grand Strength of the Mountain.

Get Curse of Flesh from Fall of the Outcasts for more chances at a well-rolled Huge Rahyeh Idol.

A very important blessing for damage is Breath of Cinders, at it will stack with, multiplying our damage heavily.

Build Variants

Leveling

In this section, we will go over levelling with Hammer Throw and how exactly to transition to Warpath. Check the "Build Variants" section to see the gear we will be using with Hammer Throw.

Levelling With Hammer Throw (~levels 1-50)

As soon as we unlock the ability to specialize a skill, we do so with Hammer Throw. We head straight for the Hammer Vortex 1/1 node so the hammers orbit us. Then we max out Ballista 6/6 for cost reduction, then the last point in Catapult 2/2 for 3 total hammers.

You must look for 2 Silver Rings or Gold Rings with PrefixThrowing Damage and Reduced Mana Cost of any level. This will reduce our Hammer Throw cost to 3, making OOM situations very rare.

Rings and Gloves can also roll PrefixThrowing Attack Speed, and Jade Amulet has this implicitly.

Helmets and Body Armor can roll PrefixIncreased Hammer Throw Damage as well from very early on. You can also look for anything with PrefixThrowing Damage.

The only one-handed weapons that actually affect Hammer Throw implicitly are Iron Hammer and Morning Star, since Hammer Throw doesn't benefit from melee damage modifiers in any way. We look for one of these weapons with PrefixPhysical Damage and SuffixHealth On Kill, since it is the most reliable source of healing as we are not speccing into Battle Rouse.

Upgrade your armor bases and resistances as you go through the levels. Don't be afraid to shatter gear for Resistance shards!

Note: Specialize and level up Warpath, Holy Aura, and Smite as you level. Swap Hammer Throw for Javelin after transitioning.

Transitioning to Warpath (~level 50)

At level 47, you can start looking for a good Spriggan Branch (or Astrology Wand if you want to transition later) base with PrefixFire Damage, and either PrefixSpell Damage or PrefixElemental Damage. You want these at T5. If you can also craft a SuffixChance to Blind on Hit of any tier, the wand is ready to use.

Next, you need Gold Rings or Silver Rings and high-Armour Gloves like Plated Gauntlets with high SuffixBlock Chance and Effectiveness.

At level 50, we need a Kite Shield with PrefixHealth Gained on Block and PrefixBlock Chance, and your total block chance should be around 50%.

Once you have all this gear stored away in your stash, you're ready to make the swap.

Endgame

Before Entering Normal Monoliths

Before we start grinding monoliths, there are some stat thresholds we need to meet.

Normal monoliths are fairly safe and easy if you can meet these these requirements.

Before Entering Empowered Monoliths

As above, there are some requirements we need to meet before tackling empowered monos.

Empowered monoliths are tough on a build with this low DPS. Play it safe, and don't do them if you can't mark off these checkboxes.

Completing the Build

Minmaxing the build completely is a tough endeavour. Besides, we're really only using it as a starter anyway. But if you want to, this is what I would consider "complete".

Super unnecessary to push the build this far, and you'll probably die from DoTs before then. But if you can manage it, DM me on Discord cause I'd love to see it lmao

FAQ

I can't cap my Poison resistance, what do I do?

Poison resistance is by far the most challenging to solve for on a Sentinel. However, Carapace Shield + Spidersilk Sash will overcap your Poison res to 100% which we need before starting empowered monoliths.

I keep dying to monolith-Lagons eye beam, why?

Lagon's eye beam is an extremely high DoT ability, and we have no DoT mitigation that early. Either find Eternal Gauntlets before fighting him, or simply avoid the eye beam (even with the gauntlets it's still an insane amount of damage). Practice on softcore and look at his eye as it will show you where he's looking.

Do you have a loot filter?
