Multiplayer

NOTICE: I saw this topic pop up a few times and I just want to point out that it was initially made in early 2018. I'm not going to modify the body of the text as I think it still reflects our priorities but some things have changed in the last couple years.

We know that many people really want to either play offline or online and not having your preferred play mode available could make a game unplayable. We want you t...

Passive Skill Systems

Passive Skill Systems have been an integral part of many of our favorite video games over the years; it provides a method for you to customize your character as they grow in the game world. Each of these play to different strengths in their respective games, but we felt they all had some room for improvement. I’m going to walk you through the proc...

Unique Item Design

Hello Travelers of Eterra! My name is Mitchell and I’m the lead on unique item design. I’ve also designed the crafting system and generally worked on a bit of everything in our code. One of my favorite parts of RPGs (ARPGs in particular) is figuring out how unique items can interact with other systems, so creating unique items that have interesting interactions with the systems of Last Epoch is something I’ve really focused on.
The goal of unique items is to give players more interesting c...

Let's talk about dialogue

Note: This topic is very old. While many of the sentiments remain the same, the information is out of date.

Dialogue systems in games typically get broken down into two main categories, branching and non-branching dialogue. Non-branching dialogue is typically ...
